You’re not alone. Most beginners run into the same issues — photos that are too dark, blurry stars, using the wrong settings, or heading out at the wrong time and missing the best activity altogether.

Astrophotography isn’t just about camera settings.
You also need to understand when conditions are right, how to read forecasts, and how to adjust as things change in real time. That’s the part most tutorials don’t cover well.

There’s plenty of free information online, but it’s often generic and hard to apply in the field. It’s easy to spend hours watching videos and still not be sure what to do when you’re actually out shooting.

How I can help

I offer one-on-one online sessions where I walk you through the process step-by-step, tailored to your camera, your experience level, and your location.

This is focused on real-world results — not just theory.

Depending on your level, we can cover:

  • Camera setup for aurora and Milky Way

  • How to adjust settings based on conditions

  • Understanding and using your histogram

  • How to read aurora forecasts and apps

  • Timing, patience, and what to look for in the sky

  • Reviewing your photos and improving your results

You’re welcome to send through your images beforehand so we can go through them together.

Online sessions:
$30 NZD — 30 minutes
$60 NZD — 60 minutes

Introductory pricing while I get this up and running — this may change in future.

In-person sessions (Taranaki)

For those based in Taranaki, I also offer limited in-person sessions.

Daytime session (at my location):
$60 NZD — 1 hour
Good for camera setup, settings, and understanding the basics.

Field sessions (aurora / night sky):
Priced higher due to time, travel, and conditions.
